Sandy Strikes

October 31, 2012

Mixing prints have been a popular trend for several months. I followed this trend, but added a classic twist by pairing with a trench and Hunter boots. These timeless pieces bring out the best in any look.  Remember when mixing different prints, stay in the same color family to avoid looking messy.

High Contrast

October 30, 2012

I love this look because it's so chic, but so simple. This Lilly Pulitzer cardigan reminds me of a vintage Chanel with the gold and pearl button detail. I paired it with a gorgeous printed skirt that has leather detail and a silk top with a big bow for a contrasting look. I think some sweaters can look uptight and boring, but when you mix them with a bold piece, it's fun and inventive.

Anorak

It's worth it to spend money on outerwear. A pop of color or a unique shape in a jacket can change your entire look. Zara has great jackets for less, Tibi jackets are adorable and chic, and Celine has amazing jackets at a designer price point.

Buttoned Up

A beautifully tailored blazer can anchor your entire wardrobe. It provides the perfect bit of contrast to feminine, soft, romantic clothing, yet when worn more literally with tailored clothes it can create a perfect tomboy look. I have a collection of classically tailored blazers that I love to wear over a few layers of T-shirts or over a cocktail dress. (excerpt from I Love Your Style by Amanda Brooks)

Modern Shift

October 24, 2012

I love the Fall weather, but I have trouble deciding what to wear to sustain me from cold mornings to warmer afternoons then colder nights. Layering is the answer to my Fall wardrobe worries and it looks so chic. Try carrying over one of your Spring/Summer shirts into the Fall by putting it under a wool dress and rolling up the sleeves. It's untraditional, but looks chic and pulled together.

Country Classic

October 23, 2012

Plaid has been overused as a classic material, but then I look back at the 40s, 50s, and 60s when women were expected to be more feminine and formal, and suddenly this geometric print looked fresh and new and exciting to me. There are so many ways to go right and wrong with this fabric. Plaid can add just the right retro element to a look when you are verging on being too tasteful.
